1. “Pity” can be understood in different ways. It means to love, protect, and care. “Pity” means to be deeply attached to. It also means caring, but caring too much to hurt. All in all, it’s a reflection of love and tenderness, or expression of feeling that you won’t give them up. Although God used a word common to the human, but it carries the voice of His heart and His attitude toward man. When God spoke, all was revealed in full.
2. The streets of Nineveh, like Sodom too, were corrupt and evil and violently cruel. But because they repented, God’s heart did change there, and their destruction was now duly spared. Toward God’s word and His instruction, their attitude was different from people of Sodom. Their submission to God was full and thorough, and the repentance for their sins was wholly true. They were earnest, sincere in every way. So God once more displayed His heartfelt pity and bestowed it upon them.
